I didn't hesitate when Black Swan was released in the cinema on Friday, I was straight down there and could barely contain my excitement but was also a little worried that I was going to be desperately disappointed.
I wasn't.
It was everything that I wanted in a film. I was mainly shocked by how grotesque some of the horror scenes were but I also think that that's what made it brilliant. It was beautiful, disgusting, sexy, painful and gripping. I had my stomach in knots during the entire film and had to calm down after with a glass of wine.
As a ballet dancer myself I am obviously biased towards this genre and as we heard two women leave before us telling each other how much they hated it I couldn't understand how you could fault that. Nathalie Portman has the Oscar in hand and the Rodarte designers should bag one as well as Darren Aronofsky himself.
I am going to need to see it again to be able to pick up on all of the clues given to you throughout and to be able to fully understand the whole psychological reasoning behind her actions.
At the moment it is right at the top of my Best Films Ever list and i doubt that it will be shifted from that spot soon.
